JaNice Van Ness was elected to the Post 2 seat on the Board of Commissioners in the November 2006 General Election and took office in January 2007. In addition to serving on the Board of Commissioners, JaNice is the founder of Peachtree Academy Private School that is based in Conyers and several locations of early childhood learning centers. Her thriving business and passion for education have helped her expand the school with an additional SACS accredited Private School campus in Covington, GA opening August 16, 2010 for Preschool through High School students.
JaNice earned her Associates of Arts and Sciences degree from Oxford College of Emory University and her Bachelor's degree in Political Science / International Relations with a double minor in business from Auburn University.
JaNice is a fourth generation native of Rockdale County and is the daughter of Steve and Carolyn Frey. She has been married for over 13 years to Ken Van Ness and they are the proud parents of three children: Lawson, Samantha, and Emerson Elise. They are active members of Rockdale Baptist Church and have been members since 2005. JaNice is involved with several community activities and programs and is a member of the Rockdale Republican Party and the Women's Service Association, a civic minded group. JaNice was awarded the distinguished 2004 Jerry Barboe Small Business Award from the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. She is also a graduate of Leadership Rockdale, Fayette, and Newton. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Atlanta Regional Commissions' Regional Leadership Institute.
