The Environmental Health Department is a state-run agency that partners with Rockdale County to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
Environmental Health's vision is to have healthy people living in healthy communities. Environmental Health's mission is to promote, protect and ensure the health of the people of Rockdale County. Environmental Health's job is to prevent illnesses and injuries.
Environmental Health issues permits for and inspects the following:
- Food service establishments (restaurants, cafeterias, cafes, etc.)
- Individual sewage systems (septic tanks and drain fields)
- Tourist accommodations
- Public swimming pools
- Body art studios
The department's environmentalists respond to phoned in complaints regarding:
- Certain nuisances caused by animals, not covered by Animal Control
- Food service
- Insects and rodents (rats, mice, flies, fleas, and mosquitoes)
- Leaking sewage
- Swimming pools
- Motels/hotels
