The Department of Recreation & Maintenance is responsible for maintenance and repair of county-owned streets, sidewalks, grounds and facilities. The department oversees all county parks, and recreational and leisure activities, including the Olivia Haydel Senior Center.

The parks and recreation division handles the operation of an indoor swimming pool, outdoor parks with playgrounds, a 650-acre lake for boating and fishing, trails, a recreation center and ball fields, and a variety of recreational programs. The Johnson Park Recreation Center offers after school care and day camps in the summer. This division offers the rental of facilities, meeting rooms, pavilions, ball fields and gyms.

The senior services division provides basic support services to older residents of Rockdale County. Rockdale residents 60 years and over and their spouses are eligible for membership to the center. Classes and recreational activities are available to adults over 50. The center offers a variety of daily activities at the center, as well as field trips
