A.S.P.I.R.E. / Therapeutic Recreation Programs

TEEN SCENE SUMMER CAMP
Don’t waste your summer watching re-runs of Gilligan’s Island! Here’s your chance to see old friends, socialize with new ones, learn new skills and savor the sunny days of summer! We’ll enjoy sports and games, swimming, music, dance, cooking, art, field trips and surprises planned by the group. For Teenagers ages 13-19 and 20-21 if still in school.
When:              June 6 - July 1, Monday-Friday

ROCKDALE CARES DANCE
“Sizzling Summer Blast Beach Party and Dance” Come enjoy the start of summer. Wear your flip-flops, summer shorts, sunglasses and floppy hats. Dance under our palm trees. How low can you go in our limbo games? Yummy beach picnic. Cowabunga, dude! Open to middle school age and above.

JULY
 
CHORUS AND SINGING
We’ll pick out some popular and easy songs to sing. We’ll learn the words and create our chorus with movements. But mostly it will be fun to sing together as a group and blend our voices into one chorus. We finish the class with a fun performance. If you’ve always wanted to sing but were too shy to perform by yourself, this activity is for you!

MAKE A COLLAGE SELF PORTRAIT
We’ll utilize your old photos and pictures from magazines to create a picture unique to you. We’ll incorporate your dreams, favorite things, and whatever strikes you to create a beautiful and interesting visual collage picture.

LUNCH BUFFET AT GOLDEN CORRAL
Bring your giant appetite and join us for a grand lunch with friends and plenty of meats, sides and desserts!

KOOL COOKING CLASS COOKIN’ WITH CECE
Under the direction of an instructional chef, we will be making dinner ourselves. Everything tastes so much better when you make it yourself! We’ll enjoy the dinner we made and discover what kool cooks we are!

LINE DANCING
Whether you want to learn how to dance the latest dances, get some exercise, or enjoy music with friends we’ll have a roaring good time in this activity. No dancing experience necessary, just an interest to moving with the music and laughing with friends. So dust off your dancing shoes and join us!

RIVER TUBING
We’ll go to Helen, GA., have lunch and enjoy a leisurely trip down the river. We’ll spend an afternoon enjoying nature and cooling off as we float down the lazy river.

DINNER/MOVIE NIGHT NORTHLAKE  
The movie restaurant combines first-run movies with a casual dining menu offering a wide range of choices that include fresh off the grill burgers, homemade pizzas, popular appetizer and dessert selections. Of course, you can always get traditional concession items, such as soft drinks, candy, and fresh-popped popcorn as well. The movie will combine the enjoyment of movies with an in-theatre dining experience.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS MASTERS SOFTBALL
This is Softball for All! Everybody plays and has fun. We are looking for 13 year old to adult age players for our summer softball team. We will have regular practices, home and away games and compete in the Fall State Games and other tournaments!

SPECIAL OLYMPICS “ROOKIES” FALL SOFTBALL

SIX FLAGS TRIP
Come enjoy a day at the park, riding different rides from hair-raising thrillers to air conditioned indoor musical shows.

AUGUST
 
CREATE YOUR OWN BASEBALL HAT
Sherrell will help you create your own individualized hat to wear in the summer. You’ll get plenty of attention and comments on your piece of art on your head! Decorate your hat with your favorite team, singer or designs or all of them and more.

BOWLING PARTY AND PIZZA
We had so much fun at our last Family Bowling Night. So come with a partner or be put on a two-person team. We’ll have ramps for bowlers with physical limitations and orientation devices for blind/low vision bowlers. Will share a pizza dinner at the bowling alley. Come one, come all!

Cost:                $15 per night includes two games and shoes, pizza and drink
 
YELLOW RIVER GAME RANCH
Stroll along a mile-long trail on 24 wooded acres and encounter over six hundred highly sociable birds and animals indigenous to the state of Georgia. White-tailed deer, bunnies, buffalo, sheep, kid goats, black bears and a bevy of new-born animals are waiting to be fed, admired and petted on a "nose-to-nose" basis. We specialize in "people-friendly" wildlife.
After viewing the animals, we’ll have our own picnic lunch (bring own sack lunch).

CRAZY BINGO
We’ll have a great time trying to win the fabulous prizes and being the first to yell “BINGO”. Everyone will bring one small prize from home and Therapeutic Recreation will provide a few special prizes. Any way you’re sure to have a good time and come home with something.

Cost:                Free but you must bring one small “White Elephant” prize,  value under $5, something you have laying around your house, or something you make or cook.
 
ARTS AND CRAFTS
Our creative Instructor Jamille, will teach you how to make simple crafts that express your creativity and skill. We’ll make projects to wear, decorate your room or give as a gift. Join this group as we have a great time being creative and crafty!

WATER PARK
The Browns Mill Family Aquatic Center is more than a neighborhood pool. It’s a watery amusement park, complete with twin water slides that tower three stories above the pool, kiddie water slides, a snack bar and picnic tables

GIRLS’ CLUB FOR SPECIAL NEEDS
Participate with other girls 16 and older with special needs in exploring activities unique to women’s interests. We’ll get together and make friends hanging out, going places, sharing interests and discovering new experiences together.

COUNTRY & WESTERN “BOOT SCOOTIN” DINNER/DANCE
Wear your cowboy/cowgirl duds and come prepared for a boot scootin’ party. Food, music and socializing. Open to middle school age and above. Hamburger and hot dog cook out.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS MASTERS’ BOCCE
For individuals 22 years and older. Bocce requires a minimum of physical ability but a maximum of strategy, teamwork and fun. It’s also an excellent way of meeting other adults with similar interests.

MOVIE AND PIZZA
We will enjoy a pizza dinner and finish it off with a first run flick in air-conditioned comfort at the Carmike Theatre.

BIG HAYNES WILDLIFE FESTIVAL
The Wildlife Festival promotes understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors while featuring animal exhibits, guest speakers, hands-on demonstrations, children's activities, stage performances, arts and crafts.
