County Attorney

Mr. M. Qader A. Baig serves as the county attorney for Rockdale County.  Baig is the managing partner of M. Qader A. Baig & Associates, LLC in Conyers.

Baig earned a bachelor's of arts degree in 1988 with both general and special honors from the University of Chicago where he was recognized with special distinction as recipient of the Theodore Lee Neff Award for Excellence in his study of languages and literature.  After graduation, he served as an account executive for a marketing firm in Montreal, Canada, before making his way to Georgia in 1990 to study law at the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta.

While at Emory, Baig served Cobb County government as a prosecutor under the Third Year Practice Act and experienced success in the courtroom with a favorable jury trial verdict in a complex arson case.  The experience of litigation under the direct supervision and mentorship of seasoned and learned attorneys served as the basis upon which Baig would build a strong foundation in courtroom law and procedure.

In 1993, after earning his Juris Doctor from Emory, Baig first came to Rockdale County to work in the field of real property as a title abstractor for a local company.  Soon after, Baig was hired by Rockdale County to serve the citizens as an assistant district attorney.  During his tenure with Rockdale County, Baig handled a variety of matters in Rockdale County's Juvenile, Magistrate, State and Superior courts.  In addition to his many responsibilities, on behalf of the citizens of Rockdale County, he argued successfully before the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia.

After serving in the Rockdale County District Attorney's Office, Baig spent four years with DeKalb County government where he rose to the position of solicitor general, pro tempore.  As chief operating officer, he was responsible for an office with 80 to 100 employees and an almost $4 million budget, in a system of courts divided into seven distinct divisions.  Additionally, his responsibilities included handling employment law matters, appeals, media/public information, open records requests, case transfers, mental health court and bond issues.

In 2004, Baig returned to Rockdale County to found and manage his law firm, M. Qader A. Baig & Associates, LLC.  In total, his office consists of five professionals who, prior to joining the law firm, collectively demonstrated almost a quarter of a century of service to local citizens as direct employees of Rockdale County government.  Through M. Qader A. Baig & Associates, LLC, Baig continues best to represent people directly and often by associating known experts as part of his extended team dedicated to proficient legal representation.  He is not limited by the burden of partnership and when necessary, instead, forms associations intelligently and specifically created to maximize positive legal results and outcomes.

His renovated office, located in Olde Town Conyers in the historic Almand Building, truly serves as a tribute to historic preservation.  Further, it symbolizes his respect for advancement towards the future with respect for the past.  Baig has always shared the belief that it is important to move forward while learning from the past, instead of ignoring it.  A block away from the Rockdale County courthouse and County administrative offices, his law firm is ideally situated to handle local matters.

In the past five years, Baig has been recruited by the cities of Covington, Oxford and Porterdale to represent the cities in Municipal Court, where he handles all cases.  As he provides legal service to the cities, Baig cultivates and extends both his commitment to civil service and his proficiency in representing local governmental entities.

M. Qader A. Baig is admitted to practice before the courts of the state of Georgia, U.S. District Courts for Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia and the state of Illinois.  He is a member of the Rockdale County Bar Association and the Newton County Bar Association.  Baig has been recognized as an Honorary State Patrol Trooper, received the M.A.D.D. Outstanding Service Award in 2004, and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Citizen's Academy.  In the past, he has received several certificates of appreciation including those from the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners, Rockdale County Juvenile Court and from the Georgia State Patrol.  As an attorney, Baig has provided training to lawyers, members of law enforcement, court staff, law students, paralegals, prosecutors and defense attorneys.
