ROCKDALE COUNTY CLOSURE OF FRONTIER DRIVE AT LAKE ROCKAWAY DAM

WHEN:  On-going until completed.

WHERE:  Frontier Drive, NW along the dam at Lake Rockaway new Lakeview Estates.

WHAT:  A portion of Frontier Drive NW, along the dam at Lake Rockaway near Lakeview Estates will continue to remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Rockdale County closed the road on April 12 due to potentially unsafe conditions caused by deterioration of the earthen dam.

The water level of Lake Rockaway, which is entirely owned by Rockdale County, has been lowered in an effort to minimize further deterioration of the dam. The water level will be regularly monitored and maintained at the current level until repair activities have been completed. Traffic barricades and fencing have been installed at both ends of the dam and will remain throughout the closure; local residents should not cross the dam for any reason, as it is not safe for vehicular or pedestrian traffic. Detour signs will remain posted to advise alternate routes. Construction activities to repair the dam will begin as soon as possible, but are dependent on permitting, funding, and other factors.

QUE:  Parte de Frontier Drive, a lo largo de la represa del Lago Rockaway cerca de Lakeview Estates, se mantendra cerrada al transito vehicular y peatonal. Agentes del Condado de Rockdale cerraron la carretera el 12 de abril de 2010 por condiciones potencialmente peligrosas causadas por el deterioramiento de la tuberia fluvial de la represa. El nivel del agua del Lago Rockaway, que es totalmente propiedad del Condado de Rockdale, ha sido bajado para minimizar el potencial deterioro de la represa.

El nivel del agua se controlará periodicamente y se mantendra al nivel actual hasta que las actividades de reparación sean completadas. Barricadas de tránsito y verjas han sido instaladas en ambos extremos de la represa y se mantendrán así durante la duracion de los reparos. Ninguna persona debe cruzar la represa por ninguna razón, ya que no es seguro que la superficie no se hunda bajo el transito vehicular o peatonal. Se mantendran signos de desvío para avisar al transito de rutas alternas. Las actividades de construcción para reparar la represa comenzarán lo más pronto posible, pero dependen de la concesión de permisos, fondos y otros factores.
