The Department of Transportation, Engineering Division, provides support in the design, review, project management, and construction of transportation infrastructure concept studies, preliminary and final design, utility conflict resolution, permitting, reporting, and surveying of transportation and other related infrastructure projects funded through SPLOST, bonds, grants, LMIG, and other general funds. Other responsibilities include the solicitation and securing of grants, federal and state appropriations, and other funding sources for county transportation infrastructure improvements including highway
capacity projects, intersection improvements, safety projects, roadway resurfacing, beautification, and transportation enhancement projects.
On July 16, 2010, Rockdale County received formal notification from the Georgia Department of Transportation that the county had been certified to administer federal-aid projects. After receiving this certification, Rockdale County accepts the following responsibilities:
1. Ensures that all applicable Federal and State regulations are followed on the project and have the responsibility, authority, and resources to manage it effectively.
2. Serve as agency contact for issues or inquiries concerning the project.
3. Be familiar with project progress, involved in decisions that require change orders, and visit the project on a frequency that is commensurate with the magnitude and complexity of the project.
