South River Trail

The Rockdale South River Trail Project is a greenway/multiuse trail in Rockdale County following the South River from the DeKalb County Line to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit (see map link). Once complete, the trail will consist of approximately 13 miles and will connect to an existing trail of roughly equal length that has already been completed in Dekalb County. The trail surface will be concrete with numerous wooden board walks constructed through wetland areas to provide access to key environmental and cultural features along the river corridor.

This trail is part of a coordinated effort of public and private interests to preserve green space and connect communities with alternative transportation in Rockdale County. Public funding for this comes from Rockdale’s SPLOST program and from GDOT’s Transportation Enhancement program. Private funding comes from donations administered through the PATH Foundation (www.pathfoundation.org)
