As part of the County’s NPDES permit requirements and stormwater management program, the Stormwater Utility provides a street sweeping program. The County contracts a private firm to sweep priority area roads on a semi-annual basis in an effort to remove pollutants from the road before they enter the storm drain system. Priority areas are defined as roads with high average daily trips, older subdivisions, overgrown areas and areas that receive frequent complaints of litter. All debris collected during the sweeping events is disposed of at a local legal landfill. It is much easier and cost effective to remove potential pollutants at the source, rather than try to mitigate their effect on storm drain systems or our water resources.
